WEST VIRGINIA NEWS
from Eyewitness News Online Holiday season good for W.Va. ski resorts January 08, 2009 9:14 AM CHARLESTON, W.Va.
West Virginia's ski resorts are hoping a strong holiday showing during a national economic downturn is a sign that the season will be good. West Virginia Ski Areas Association spokesman Joe Stevens says the resorts saw more than 200,000 skier visits from mid-December to just after New Year's. A skier visit is one person visiting a ski area once for all or any part of a day or night. In many cases, Stevens says the holidays comprise 25 percent to 30 percent of a resort's ski season income. Winterplace President Terry Pfeiffer says the Raleigh County resort's visitations are ahead of those in 2008. Pfeiffer says he believes skiiers who typically might go to western resorts are staying closer to home. Information from: Charleston Daily Mail, http://www.dailymail.com |
