from Eyewitness News Online Rain prompts school closings, warnings across WVa January 07, 2009 10:07 AM CHARLESTON, W.Va.
Rain and high water forced school closures across West Virginia today. Roane County closed all schools beginning at 9 a.m. because of fast-rising high water, and Mingo County began sending students home by midmorning. Concern about high water prompted Raleigh County to dismiss students at five schoolsl by late morning. Hampshire County schools opened two hours late, while Kanawha County closed one elementary due to high water. Meanwhile, Clay County sent Big Otter Elementary students home early due to a lack of water. Flood watches and advisories are in effect until midday for Randolph, Upshur, Webster, Logan, McDowell, Mingo and Wyoming counties. Also facing potential flooding are Greenbrier, Monroe, Fayette, Raleigh, Preston, Tucker, Logan, Boone and Summers counties. Winter storm warnings are in effect for Morgan, Berkeley, Hardy, Jefferson and Grant counties in the Eastern Panhandle. |
