WEST VIRGINIA NEWS
from Eyewitness News Online 3 nominated to replace late WVa lawmaker January 07, 2009 11:02 AM CHARLESTON, W.Va.
A former lawmaker is among three Democrats recommended to succeed Delegate Bill Proudfoot, who died in an auto accident two days before Christmas. Mike Ross was proposed late Tuesday, along with Carl Randy Moore and Denise L. Campbell, by a committee representing the two-county 37th Delegate District. Gov. Joe Manchin now has five days to replace Proudfoot. The 68-year-old Democrat had represented Randolph and Pocahontas counties in the House since 1990. Ross was in the state Senate when Clark Barnes unseated him in 2004. Ross lost a rematch with the Republican in November. Randolph County's Democratic chairman, Robert Beckwith, has cited state law to question whether Pocahontas County properly chose its members of the delegate committee. |
