Marshall president earns 18 percent pay raise

Marshall University President Stephen J. Kopp is getting a raise.

The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission voted Wednesday to increase Kopp's salary to $275,000 from $232,780.

His new five-year contract also allows for additional compensation of up to $50,000 a year from private sources.

University Board of Governors' member A. Michael Perry says Kopp has aggressively tackled declining enrollment and financial pressures since joining the university in 2005.

Perry says the higher salary will help to retain Kopp in a very competitive market.

Kopp thanked the board for its confidence in him and says he looks forward to helping the university continue to prosper.
