Abramson invited to Obama announcement January 07, 2009 12:24 PM
LOUISVILLE, Ky.
Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson has been invited by Barack Obama to attend an announcement this week on the president-elect's jobs plans for the country.
The mayor's office says the invitation went out to about a dozen top mayors around the country.
Abramson is a former president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. He's been among the urban leaders urging the new president and Congress to provide federal money to improve roads, bridges, schools and other infrastructure as a way to create new jobs amid the nation's economic downturn.
Abramson's office says he'll attend a briefing with other mayors before Obama's announcement Thursday at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
