People enjoying their movie at the Marquee Cinemas Saturday night had no clue what was going on in the lobby.

"We just heard a dog barking and we were like, 'Who brought a dog to the theater?'," Katie McDonald said.

"We thought it was someone's cell phone, a new ring tone or something," Xnji Luther said.

But it wasn't a ring tone. It was a German Shephard working with State Police on a manhunt.

"We saw the German Shephard walk into the theater, barking like crazy," McDonald said. It went all the way to the front of the movie screen and sniffed the door, barked some more, then went out. We had no idea what was happening."

What was happening just outside in the lobby shortly after 10:00 pm...an armed robbery.

"Someone had entered the movie theater, brandished a weapon and gone back in the office, stole money out of the safe and fled on foot," HPD Chief, Skip Holbrook, said.

Holbrook says within minutes the K-9 on scene was able to track the scent of the suspect from the Marquee, through the parking garage, to the Veteran's Memorial Blvd. But after that the suspect simply disappeared.

Luther says after her movie was over, she could tell something was wrong.

"A lot of the girls looked scared, like they've been crying," she said. "We didn't know what was going on."

But Holbrook says the reason people weren't notified about the robbery is because the suspect had left and no one was in danger.

"We made the determination at that point to not shut the movies down, and create mass confusion, because we had the area secured," he said.

For some, regardless of how secure the area was, they say it would have been nice to be warned.

"They didn't do anything to make us feel safe," Luther said. "That's absolutely for certain."

Huntington Police are looking for a white male around the age of 20 or 30. He's about 5'7'' or 5'8'' and is medium built. He was last seen wearing a brown-hooded shirt and goggles. He was also wearing a surgical mask or a white cloth around his face.

Anyone with information is urged to call the HPD Detectives Office at (304) 696.4420.
