Last Update on 12-01-2008 at 06:19:09from Eyewitness News Online Box Office LOS ANGELES Laughs beat vampires. Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn are celebrating "Four Christmases." Their comedy opens at number-one, with nearly $32 million this weekend and more than 46 mil since Wednesday. It's a virtual tie for second place. "Bolt" is a hair ahead of "Twilight," with each at around 26 and a half million. But the rankings could change when the final figures are announced later today. "Quantum of Solace" was fourth, followed by the debut of "Australia." Overall, Hollywood has plenty to be thankful for this year. This Thanksgiving weekend is the second best ever. The top 12 movies took in nearly 224 million dollars -- second only to Thanksgiving in 2000.
LOS ANGELES Baz Luhrmann says every time he and Nicole Kidman work together there "are big, momentous personal changes" in their lives. During "Moulin Rouge" he says Kidman "went through a break-up" with Tom Cruise and Luhrmann's father passed away. And, Luhrmann says during "Australia" Kidman "already had two lovely children but she became pregnant with her new daughter." "Four Christmases" - Mary Steenburgen LOS ANGELES During the holidays, Mary Steenburgen's home is a lot like the last house in "Four Christmases," where everyone is together. She says it's a crazy mix that includes her kids and their friends, her ex-husband with his kids, and both Christians and Jews representing. Steenburgen says most everyone has a dog and brings it along, too. She describes the atmosphere as "riotous and silly," but says everyone has "a great time." "The View" - Barbara Walters Says They'Re All Friends NEW YORK Things have never been more cordial on "The View." That's according to Barbara Walters. She says she doesn't "know of any five women who get along as well" as they do: Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd. Walters says they "see each other off-camera." Whoopi Goldberg is having a big Christmas party for everybody. And, Walters says last week, she, Goldberg and Behar had dinner together. Hasselbeck and Shepherd would have been there, too, but they were sick. Walters says Hasselbeck and Behar "love sparring" without any hard feelings. She says they're all happy and "the show's success reflects that." Rosie O'Donnell - Done With Variety Shows UNDATED Rosie O'Donnell is done with variety shows. The live one she did Wednesday from New York was a ratings-bust for NBC. On her Web site, she says in her cryptic style that despite the bad ratings and reviews, it was a a thrill for her. A few days after O'Donnell's show, Ellen DeGeneres did a variety show from Las Vegas that aired Saturday on TBS. Leonardo Dicaprio - Selling Malibu House LOS ANGELES Nine million dollars could get you the home Leonardo DiCaprio is selling in the beachside city of Malibu. The Los Angeles Times says he's listed a contemporary home that's on bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It has a stairway going down to the sand. There's a main house and a guest house. The main house is just under 2,400 square feet with two bedrooms and two baths. The guest house has two one-bedroom suites. There's a four-car garage and the property is said to be very private and is only one of the places he owns in the area. Zsa Zsa Gabor - Turkeys For Community Center SANTA MONICA, Calif. This is the slap that keeps on giving. Zsa Zsa Gabor's slapping a police officer 16 years ago continues to be a good thing for some needy people in the Venice section of Los Angeles. The Santa Monica Mirror says for the 16th Thanksgiving in a row, Gabor and her husband have bought turkeys at a local supermarket for the Vera Davis McClendon Youth and Family Center. This is the same center where Gabor did community service as part of her sentence for slapping a police officer. Prince Frederic von Anhalt says 16 years ago "it was only 40, but now it's grown to more than 300" turkeys. He says they've "continued the tradition of giving turkeys to the poor families that the center helps support to make it a happy Thanksgiving for everyone there." Wkrp In Cincinnati - Lives Again CINCINNATI They've just missed their opportunity for a turkey drop. Maybe next year. But, now there really is a WKRP in Cincinnati. Unlike the fictional radio station of the old sitcom, this new WKRP is a digital TV station. The station manager tells the Cincinnati Enquirer that he's registered "WKRP" and "WKRP Cincinnati" as trademarks. Read Yesterday's Entertainment News |
