Cyber Monday Is Here -- Will It Make Difference?
Cyberspace
It's Cyber Monday. And those who are trying to get your business are willing to make it worth your while to log on and make a purchase or two. Take shipping, for example. Many sites are expected to eat the shipping costs on most orders, wiping out the one of the factors that might make some buyers squeamish about shopping online. But will it be enough to lure shoppers out of their recession-induced shell? Perhaps not. The Internet research company ComScore reports that online spending was up a modest 2 percent for Thanksgiving Day and Friday, compared with the numbers from last year. Part of the premise of Cyber Monday is that people will shop online at work on the Monday after Thanksgiving because they don't have fast computer links at home. But with a growing number of home users using broadband links, some who might be shopping online may have already done so over the four-day holiday period.

A Faster Way To Evaluate Professors
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.
Talk about instant feedback. Most colleges and universities let students provide feedback on professors. But at Purdue University, the process is being sped up because of a new online evaluation system. As it is now, Purdue students rate professors through written evaluations, which are then typed out -- so the instructor doesn't know which student said what. It can take weeks or months to transcribe the comments. The new online system will let professors see student comments in just one day. In addition to saving time, it also saves trees. Purdue estimates the change will save about 985,500 pieces of paper each semester.

On The Web: The Cost Of "The Twelve Days Of Christmas"
CYBERSPACE
At $86,609, it had better be your "true love." PNC Wealth Management has calculated the cost of all of the gifts mentioned in "The Twelve Days of Christmas" -- and the price is up again this year. Nearly 11 percent more, to be exact. Details of what costs what are posted on the firm's Web site. One bit of advice PNC is giving for this year: be patient. The company says with the recession and energy prices falling, prices could fall further between now and Christmas.

In Stores: Pokemon Ranger: Shadows Of Almia
REDMOND, Calif.
It's a new title in the Pokemon series. "Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia" gives players a new way to round up the pocket monsters -- using the Nintendo, DS stylus. In the title, players "round up" the Pokemon by drawing circles around them on the touch-sensitive screen. Upon completing various quests, players are awarded power-ups as you move up the ranks toward being a Top Ranger. The title is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB with an advisory for comic mischief and mild cartoon violence.
