Sara on Men In Trees

Suleka Mathew Suleka Mathew, who was born in India and raised in Vancouver, Canada, has worked extensively as a professional actress in film, television, radio and theatre for over seventeen years.

Mathew was shy as a child but found support from both teachers and family to pursue her interest in performing. By the age of ten, the theater allowed her to blossom and proved to be a tremendous creative outlet that sustained her throughout elementary and high school.

She started more formal training at age fifteen, but it wasn't until she was in her second year at the University of British Columbia that she realized that all she ever wanted since she was a little girl was to be an actor. With the encouragement of friends, she started private acting lessons again. Six months after she enrolled, her agent signed her on, and another six months later she got her first paid acting job as a lead in an episode of a Canadian anthology series.

Television audiences know Mathew for her role as Dr. Sunita "Sunny" Ramen on the acclaimed and award-winning Canadian dramatic series, "Da Vinci's Inquest." An international hit, the series recently made its syndicated debut in the United States.

She also had a recurring role, on the Emmy Award(r)-winning "The West Wing," as well as Stephen King's "Dead Zone," and co-starred in Hallmark Entertainment's sci-fi miniseries "Final Days of the Planet Earth." In addition she has appeared on such series as "The X-Files," "Stargate SG-1," "The Crow," "Highlander" and "MacGyver."

In the area of feature films, credits for Mathew include a starring role in the Sundance Festival hit, "Touch of Pink," directed by Ian Iqbal Rashid. She appeared in the independent film "The Score," which was screened at the 2005 Vancouver International Film Festival, and worked with esteemed director Deepa Mehta in her romantic comedy, "Republic of Love."

She performed in a staged reading of Anne Giardini's novel "The Sad Truth About Happiness" for CBC Radio. She also had a part in "The Management of Grief" by Bharati Mukherjee, and "A Fine Balance" by Rohinton Mistry. Mathew was also part of the multi-discipline cast of "Shadow Pleasures," created by Veronica Tennant and inspired by the work of Michael Ondaatje.

She currently lives in Vancouver.
