Wade Swoboda on Grace Under Fire

Casey Sander, the youngest of five children, was born in Washington, D.C. The son of a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force, he was raised in Texas, Germany and Seattle. He grew up with a dream of becoming a professional athlete.

With maturity came Casey's strong build and the skills of a natural athlete. At 17, the California Angels took notice of his talents and drafted him to play in their farm system. Three years later, an eye injury led to an early retirement from baseball, but his skills as a speedy running back landed him a football scholarship at the University of Puget Sound. There he earned a B.A. degree in communications and played four years of college football.

In order to fulfill a college requirement, Casey auditioned for the play, "Waiting for Godot," and with no previous acting experience to draw upon, was given a part. After graduating, he became an English teacher and a college-football coach. But acting was now a burning desire, so after a year of coaching and teaching, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream.

A lover of comedies, Casey appeared in the award-winning theatrical production of "Casual Sex" with his good friend, Jon Lovitz, at the Groundlings Theatre. He also appeared in the Los Angeles-based plays, "Jellyroll Shoes" and "Downside Risk."

He has performed in over 50 television shows. One of his most memorable roles was that of Betty White's cousin, Sven, on "The Golden Girls." He has appeared on ABC's "Home Improvement" as Rock Lanagan, foreman of the K. and B. Boys. He also played Officer Bob on the series, "Empty Nest." His work in television movies includes ABC's "The Enemy Within," "Rio Diablo" and "Summer Dreams: The Story of the Beach Boys." In the latter, he played the role of lead singer Mike Love.

Casey has been seen on the big screen as well. In "Wild Orchid II: 2 Shades of Blue," he plays dirty cop Tommy Edwards. Other film work includes roles in "Predator II," "Punchline" and "Crosscut."

Casey is an accomplished potter, the result of a 20-year-old hobby.
